Well, as fate would have it, I'm in LA inspecting a massive pre-war era wharf in the port for a couple of weeks. Not in NYC, but since the fam has not
Yet joined me, I suppose the travel is
no big deal. It is a bit of a bummer though to pay nyc rent when you're only in town 10 percent of the time! We did get alot accomplished during Tiff's visit as far as school and apt hunting though, so no big deal to go. After closing out a long week of diving with 6 hrs in the water today, all i want to do is sleep! LA can wait! I find myself really missing the kids and worrying about missing daddy syndrome... Have Sade's "Babyfather" stuck in my head lately. To Dylan and Gavin: I miss you guys and will be home soon. Have mommy play this song for you, ok. Love you, daddy
BABYFATHER - Sade
We were waiting for the bus
No-one much around but us
Then I see this young boy cut a look at me
I'm stunned
In a daze
He had the whole street set ablaze
It's only love they say
Makes you feel this way
She liked his eyes she wanted more
The baby gonna have your smile for sure
He saw a lovely girl
Smelling sweet and soapy like fresh air
She saw him looking acted like she didn't care
That's how we knew
And so love grew a flower
A flower that is you
Your daddy knows you're a flame
Your daddy knows you're a flame
Your daddy knows you're a flame
Your daddy knows you're a flame
Even to the angels it may sound like a lie
For you child
He has the troops and extra backup standing by
For you child
For you he's the best he can be
For you child
For you he's the best he can be
Oh child don't you know
Your daddy love come with a life time guarantee
Your daddy knows you're a flame
Your daddy knows you're a flame
Yeah daddy love you child
Your daddy knows you're a flame
Your daddy knows you're a flame
Daddy love you yeah
It's only you he'll say
Made the young boy hungry for the man he is today
It's only love, love, love, love
Can make you feel this way
Your daddy knows you're a flame

Day 1, back in the thick of it
Only in nyc can you be sweating walking down the street at 6 a.m. while it,s raining. I brisk 2 mile walk with dive gear in tow will do that, even in mid october. And where else could the hardest part of the day be just reaching the river! I was within a stones throw of the dive site, but couldn,t get across FDR Blvd to reach it! Took a half hour just to find access, and i,m sure i made the UN complex,s security nervous crossing back and forth. And wow... Dive work in NYC really is the world series of this profession. After 4 years of looking at relatively new and well kept bridges with a few piers and not much to say in the ridiculous paperwork, i,m back in the thick of it inspection-wise. A post-war timber wharf with nearly 2000 piles.. A little intense for week 1! No doubt i,m back in the city. Anyway, after an exhausting day, i got to relax and listen to adamski-diver banter with a local cinemetographer about techie movie making stuff i haven,t a clue about, after which he showed me how to whip up some killer pasta east village style, and finally i got to skype with tiff and the kids a bit. All in all, a good first day of work back in the big apple. An update othe colorado front on the move: dylan was home sick for the first time in her 3 yr school career. Poor kid... I feel a little to blame. But better news: tiff conquered the appraisors! After 5 or 6 of them wussed out on us, she finaly got one with cahones. He apparently went as far as denver for comparables, one of which was a converted mosque! How about that for tenacity! Love ya babe.

The hardest part...
I hope we just did the hardest part of this move... Saying goodbye. Tucking the kids in and kissing them goodnight for possible the last time until Thanksgiving was tough. Dylan took it well, but poor Gavin couldn't understand why he couldn't come scuba dive with me in New York. He kept saying he was a big boy and could do it. So damn cute it was heartbreaking, and the little guy did manage to make my eyes wet. I'm already thinking I'm going to have to hop on a redeye back for a long weekend at some point half way to Thanksgiving.. Just too long. Tiff was strong until the security gate and cracked a little.. I love you babe - it's going to work out ok; it always does for us. Just think, maybe the hardest part is over already. Next stop, ringing in Tiff's bday on top of the empire state building! And now the easy part - hop in the East River and get to work!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4IiccUjGps
I am excited about moving to New York. My Auntie Erika will visit us. My dad will visit his best friend named Eric. I want to learn how to ice skate in Rockerfeller Center, like in Madagascar. I will have my birthday in New York and my best friend Melody will come. I will have New York pizza for dinner on my birthday. Then we,ll have crepes for breakfast. And i will have cake for lunch.
